O V E R V I E W

The premise of this program is very straightforward. I asked myself the following question: "If I were to die tonight, and I had one last opportunity to speak something into the life of another Christian, what would I say? What would my final message be? Is there a way to sum up everything I've ever spoken or written?"

What I would say is contained in this program titled Growing Up Spiritually.

Spiritual growth is not more knowledge or increase of years. It is simply more of Jesus and less of me. "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30). This is what it means to be a disciple.

I have taught this incessantly for years. As simple as this is, I am amazed at how few people "get it". I have observed that it is quite possible to attend church all your life and never hear this being taught. As a result, we can no longer take it for granted that church attendance, in and of itself, will automatically result in mature disciples of Jesus who know how to walk in victory and live the life of an Overcomer. In fact, the exact opposite seems to occur.

Growing Up Spiritually takes a close look at what it really means to be a disciple of Jesus and examines the path of progress every Christian must take from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity. If you are on the right path, this program will encourage you to keep pursuing Christ. If you are on the wrong path, this program will help you find your way again. Either way, our goal is the same: to make sure you are headed in the right direction, growing in Christ, and enjoying all the benefits of fully-grown sons and daughters of God.

You can use this foundational material as a basis for beginning a home group, Bible study, fellowship meeting, or small gathering. Or, you can use it in a one-on-one setting with a friend who needs some encouragement. Or, you can listen to it on your own and begin putting it to work right away.

WARNING: This program is not for lazy people looking for a quick and easy solution to their problems. Following Jesus is simple, but it is not easy. The good news is that following Jesus is a lot less work than being religious.
